The South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA) is committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of the citizens of South Carolina and the general public. As a component of this commitment, the SCMA is dedicated to providing Continuing Medical Education (CME) as a platform for physicians to refine and further their understanding, knowledge, education, competence, and performance relevant to their practice, with the ultimate goal being to support physicians in their endeavor of improving patient care and outcomes (expected results).

The South Carolina Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians through March 31, 2026.
Physicians must renew their permanent medical license biennially, providing evidence that they have completed 40 hours of Category I continuing medical education sponsored by appropriate organizations, such as the SCMA. South Carolina statute 40-47-40 covers this requirement, which can be read on the SC Legislature website.
The current biennial period is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2025.
