South Carolina licensed physicians are required to obtain two continuing medical education credit hours related to the approved procedures of prescribing and monitoring controlled substances during each license renewal biennium. The current biennium ends on June 30, 2025.

Training Date/Time: Friday, September 13

  • 11:30 a.m. arrival and lunch
  • 12-2 p.m. training

Location: SCMA Headquarters, 132 Westpark Blvd., Columbia, SC

Objectives:

  • Understand the impact of the opioid epidemic in South Carolina, the “WHY”
  • Explain opioid stewardship and how it can improve a health system
  • Discuss strategies on how to change your health system’s culture through education
  • Open discussion of future opportunities


ABOUT OUR PRESENTER:

Kevin Walker, MD
Medical Director for the Division of Pain Medicine, Prisma Health—Upstate Affiliate

Dr. Walker received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also completed his residency in Anesthesiology. He received a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management from Vanderbilt University, and then returned to Upstate SC. After nearly six years in private practice, Dr. Walker joined Prisma Health where he developed a Pain Division within the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
